Sejarah suku Makassar

Sejarah dan budaya Makassar kaya akan cerita tentang kerajaan, perdagangan, dan nilai-nilai luhur. Awalnya, Makassar adalah pusat perdagangan penting di Indonesia Timur, terutama pada abad ke-16 hingga ke-17. Kerajaan Makassar, yang juga dikenal sebagai Kerajaan Gowa-Tallo, memainkan peran kunci dalam membentuk sejarah dan budaya daerah ini. Suku ini senang menyebut diri mereka sebagai orang Mangasara. Kebanyakan dari bangsa suku ini tinggal dan menetap di Kabupaten Gowa, Jeneponto, Takalar, Maros, Pangkajene, dan Bantaeng di Sulawesi Selatan. Mereka mempunyai kebiasaan untuk merantau melintasi lautan. Maka, tak heran, jika suku ini terkenal sebagai pedagang serta pelaut antar pulau yang sangat gigih.
